bring that sucker up to tehachapi, the toyota guys will bang it out :thankyou:

OH and Dirtmover: my group has not been there before, so, it's time for you to take over this post, and start passing out direction,, YOU'RE IN CHARGE :yup:
lmao... I just got the springs, and now have to order sye kit... lol then Im replacing my tires (bad alignment caused front tires to wear badly) and rims... so I may have it all done in due time... but still don't want to be a leader lol....I just plan trips we have each year so we can get everyone together :drinks:

and P.S. im working on getting this all done and rig up... also remember I don't have another vehicle so if my daily driver breaks im pretty screwed especially all the way out there

My brother says my rig is debateably capable of going on this trail. Considering I'm driving, that means no, not doable (yet, I am getting better). So either I get to ride up with some gracious soul who has an open seat, or I convince my brother to drive up too. I'm a definitely maybe. :banghead:

What has been done to your rig so far? Locked /open? How worried are you about bd? I've been through with mildly built rigs before, good spotting or picking good lines goes a long ways on this one.

New Swamp Lake Aug 1-3

Postby Dirt Mover » July 1st, 2014, 5:26 pm

Since it only looks like a small group is going and most have never been to the area I have an idea. If you would like we could make a basecamp on Bald Mountain and go into Red/Coyote on Friday. Run Swamp in one day (Saturday) a small group running light without all their gear is very doable. On Sunday we can play on Bald Mtn. and or drive home. This way people can figure out what they like in the area for future trips.
Chime in if you are committed to going.
Also, later this season a Dusy/Ershim trip will be getting planned. Only running from White Bark Vista to Ershim Lake. 4hrs of some the best scenery in the Sierras and some really good wheeling at 10,000 ft.

Instead of heading towards Dinkey Creek when you get to Shaver Lake stay on Hwy 168 towards Huntington Lake. After passing the dam and marina you will start climbing up Tamarack Ridge. (12 miles long) After you pass the 7600 elevation sign there will be a snow park on your right. It's a large parking lot with a bathroom. If you drive past the bathroom there is a road (Rock Creek Rd) which has camping spots available shortly after the parking lot. This is also the back way into Bald Mountain and when we get off Swamp Lake we will be on this road. From the snow park we will also only be about 10 minutes from the Red Mountain trail head. (Coyote Lake)

What time do you want to head out to the trail? It's about 3.5 hrs to the Snow Park from Bakersfield.

Roger, Most of the buggy folk stage at dinky creek where there is a nice area to park your trailer. Then run to Grouse Lake to camp and run back out the way they came in. You can not do the loop in your truggy.

i don't like being confused this close to a run date, especially if "my" group is
gonna be the first ones on sight

Roger,
sent you a PM with my cell.
I'm driving my rig without AC so I haven't committed to a Thurs night or early Fri morning departure. Hopefully it stays under 105*
From Rock Creek Rd on Bald Mtn. we can get to Coyote without hitting pavement and or go into Swamp backwards without highway driving. Hauling with your trailer is probably better, and since we'll be airing down you won't hold us up at all.
Call me and when I see a long term forecast I'll commit to when I'm leaving.

i'll PM you my number.

pack anything you like, we're leaving most of our gear at a camp site, and wheeling
with an ice chest only. you can leave the jeep at camp also.
my springer spaniel "Luke" will be joining us on this trip>>> how do you feel about
a warm puppy between your legs
if he's too much for you (especially after he goes swimming) Lorax (my bro.) has a spare seat also.
so pack that rig full of gear :camping: snacks/ sandwiches for the trail, food for camp,
tent, stove, fridge, couch, flat screen TV, washer and dryer :lol2: it's all good
