IOR fishing run out of Channel Islands Harbor

Postby Dirty LJ » August 17th, 2013, 6:15 am

There was some talk of doing this who's interested? I need an idea of how many want to go so I an get some pricing.

Also would you want a weekday (cheaper) or a weekend?

Sundays are less crowded and most people have it off work. Make it a 3/4 day or am 1/2 day trip if you plan on us going on a cattle boat. If you do the cattle boats, everyone will just pay on their own when (if) they show up.

For a private IOR charter, Island Tak is a good boat out to the channel islands. It holds 15 people and the group can charter it for $1000. The only problem with this is that everyone has to commit and pay in advance and there would be no refunds for people who flake out.

I would be down to put in $100-$150 per person for a private charter. It would have to be on a Saturday, maybe Sunday if we can get back early enough. I could get atleast one other person besides me to go.

Rather not go on a cattle boat for only half the price and a lot less exicting.

All charters I know of provide hardware. None that I know of provide booze. We just need to get at least one person really drunk to provide chum for good fishing.

Unless the boat owner is a bible thumping, non drinking, recovering alchoholic, downright boring guy then yes we can bring our own booze. I have been on one charter that asked for an additional deposit to cover possible drunken mishaps.

Don't show the captain that video. He may want to run a credit check to buy the boat. Worst case IOR has a new buggy/amphibian project.

Almost all SoCal charters sell beer on the boat. NONE of them (except the small 6-packs) let you bring your own (they want to sell you beer at twice the price). You can pack your own lunch, just no ice chests or bananas allowed. This is the norm.

Ok, I talked to my neighbor here in the harbor.

We can charter the New Bluefin for $850. She can hold up to 20 people. We can bring our own food and ALCOHOL as much as we wish!! :drinks:

The charter will include the boat all to ourselves, fishing rods, captain and crew. You would have to buy a fishing licence if you don't already have one, and tackle.

Sat and Sundays are mostly booked till october but there are lots of weekdays open.

What do you guys think?

I'm off usually the first 2 weeks of the month. As long as it is then I'm totally down. Possibly the wifey if we can find a sitter brave enough for teething twins.

Very hard to get away from work during the week. pick a day and I will see if I can go or not.

$850 !!!!!! That's less than half their normal weekday rates - will barely cover fuel and crew? That's a smoking deal GJ.

Very bad luck.

Maritime tradition dating back hundreds of years. All the food would spoil when bananas were brought on board sailing ships (due to a chemical reaction), so bananas got the blame for bad voyages; everything from starvation, to lack of wind, sinking, bad fishing, and venereal diseases.

Sea captains are the most superstitious folks you will ever meet, and even today most don't like bananas on their boats. Even small fishing "pangas" in Mexico and the Caribbean won't let you bring bananas or plantains on their boats.

For those of you that have a hard time getting off during the week would a mid week day or a friday be easier to get off?
