corva southern jambo

If you are thinking about doing a run and just want to put it out there, this is the place to do it.

EDIT: "not broadcast everywhere" to "not broadcast anywhere"

also: if not secret,, why did 2 of our members (that have been on the "not secret trails")
get chastised by the "lords of ridgecrest" for pics & mention, but no details?????
Sorry, don't know where this came from, but not true. The whole attitude represented here is nonsense. Chris hasn't had anything said to him, and a little teasing I've taken is good natured friendly bullshit among friends, just like we have going on in this very thread. I'm part of URF, which is just a group of long time friends, and the whole URF thing is a big joke, kind of an inside joke of sorts.

There's good reason to not broadcast the locations of these trails. Plenty of people have gone, we've taken plenty of people, but they respectfully and wisely keep it relatively quiet. Let's plan a trip. You all know me, and this area is kind of a networking thing, so let's go. But, please don't have the attitude that this is public land and everyone should know about it and be able to go there. Once you go, you'll know why.
i apologize for posting rumors, rather then facts about you & DD getting "chastised" over this, but,,, every time this subject gets brought about, those in the know= clam up, leaving us to believe the rumors, and speculation.
i am relatively new to the club but, i've put in my time and effort (especially for an out-of-towner) i support the club founders' ideas, and i have struggled to create a machine to do trails such as this
(as far as i know., i haven't been there yet :thefinger: )
i am very much looking forward to testing my skills, and ability of my machine there> with,, or without an "invite"

peace out :salute:

besides IOR, is there an uproar? And the Marines could use the comparison of the 2 as a tactic also.

They can go wheel this other spot. That is why it is on the down low.
I was invited out there. No one asked me to keep it secret. No one was concerned i was there. I posted pics and no one complained. The whole "top secret" is really a joke. Heck, I'll even post GPS location right now... Crap, black SUV is back... NOT THE FACE...NOT THE FACE!

What the fuck are you talking about? Who is "they"? "They've" made some enemies? Uproar? By who?

What you guys don't get is that it isn't the people who are wheeling out there that have created the mystique, if you want to call it that, or perpetrated an attitude, it's the people who don't wheel out there and talk about it. For example, if someone new read this thread, they would get all kinds of ideas about the place and the supposed group of people who are intent on keeping it secret and keep people out. But, I'm one of "those" people, and I'm not trying to keep you out. I've said many times I'll lead a group out there, get your junk done so we can do it. Don't blame me that you've never been there, or the so-called URF meanies. Really?

As far as the Marines and JV, you can disagree all you want but you're wrong, and I RARELY take the liberty to call someone wrong. The discussion about keeping Ridgecrest on the down low for awhile has been discussed with many involved in the nitty gritty of the work regarding JV, and they all agree that it is best for JV to not broadcast Ridgecrest. And, you say it isn't about the anti's, it's about the Marines, but that's wrong too. A bunch of 4wheelers aren't going to beat the Marines, it takes officials and politicians to understand the issues and make the uncomfortable decision to take a position against the Marines. The people who we need to support us are the same politicians who always support the military, so they need a damn good reason, and a damn good case to do so.

On second thought, maybe I don't want to take you out there. Criticize me and my friends and others, then want to go have fun and find cool new trails with us? Maybe you were right after all, we're a bunch of elitist, protectionist assholes with no respect for the public's land and their right to run some good trails. You know, the Tinbenders have been out there a ton of times, and you don't see them broadcasting it. I guess they're a bunch of assholes just like the URF guys.

BTW, if we really want to have some fun.......URF.

That's the kind of thinking I'd like to see on this. I'm sure there would be no beef if you find them on your own, but don't pressure someone into taking you out there. A few of the URF gang were calling Goatman "GMFU" after taking chris out there. I know a few others of URF have taken people out there as guests, but nothing was really said to them so it's just a blatant double standard. Certainly you don't want to burn any bridges with these people.

You been on the phone with matt or something? I'm not gonna drag anymore people into this. If you'd like to know names I'll talk to you in person about it sometime. Most comes from someone I'm reasonably close to in NAXJA who is involved in URF also. I'm sure that most here think I'm full of shit and that I don't know anyone. The truth is: I don't need to tell you who I know what I know or how I came to know it.

Brad, you don't know how fucked up you are. :thefinger:

At least this stuff gives us something to laugh about while we're drinking beer and hanging out, in real life rather than in cyber world.

How about I post an open invitation for anyone to go webwheel Ridgecrest, no specific equipment requirements needed.

BTW, the Corva event is mostly about motorcycles. Funny that they have a Jeep on the poster. Wagonwheel, which the motorcycle crowd calls Charley's Place, is a big riding destination but not a 4x4 destination at all except for us. IF there are any Jeeps there they will probably lead runs into Panamint Valley. Not trying to be negative, but you'd be better off us planning a trip around that time. No one that will be a part of that event knows where the 4x4 trails are around there. You'd be better off scouting the area and just planning an IOR weekend than going to the Corva event.

Again funniest part of this thread is that roger really is and does want to do the corva event to support them, and what they do for land use.

Once i happened to mention trails in the area it blew up, never was a plan to run those trails during the corva deal.

Understood. However, I'd go to a Cal4wheel event to support the cause before I'd go to a CORVA event because the Cal4Wheel event will be for 4x4's and likely be more fun. While I've heard CORVA in SoCal is trying to include 4x4's more now that there has been some silly political bullshit with the Sounthern region of Cal4Wheel, the location choice of their event doesn't look much like they are gearing towards 4x4's since that is a major riding destination for bikes and quads. Fun in the Desert at Johnson Valley is the same weekend, and that is both a 4x4 event and has hardcore rockcrawling runs, so really I don't get why you'd want to go to the Corva event in a rockcrawler. The dates being the same is further evidence that the Corva event is not really about 4x4's. If you want to go to check it out, I'm not trying to be negative about it, just that there is a much better opportunity to both wheel and support our cause by going to Fun in the Desert the same weekend.

Not trying to step on any toes but I do remember posts on naxja about these trails yrs ago and noone willing to tell anyone where they were even back before JV was threatened. So that sorta seems like a convienent cover up to me. But then again I'm a conspiracy nut...
Maybe you don't realize how long ago we knew about the JV threat. It's been going on for a very long time. Also, there are groups all over the west that have new hardcore trails that they don't broadcast about in order to keep them from getting beat down. The bad ass trails in So Dakota have been kept secret for as long as I've been wheeling. You can go to one of the events there, or get a personal connection to someone from there, but I've searched all around and have never found where those trails are, and have discussed it with others because we considered doing them when I was organizing the Best in the West trips. There are a bunch of bad ass trails in AZ that you'll never go to unless you get taken there by knowing the locals. There are trails around Cedar City that you'll never get to unless you know the locals and get them to take you there. Same for various other destinations. I hate to beat a dead horse, but the whining and accusations that have been thrown out in this thread are unfounded and silly, especially since I've openly said we'd plan an IOR trip over there. So, I see no problem protecting the location of trails. I see no problem with protecting the location based on the JV threat. I've made no effort to protect the location of the trails from IOR.

Sorry Roger. I didn't start this, but I feel I must respond. And, go to Fun in the Desert.

And yeah.... it's getting close. We need to go see how JB Fabworks can put together a Jeep! I'm thinking we might have a problem on our hands when all the business in Bako.... even Central California, finds out what we put together. Might have a job waiting for you if you ever need a second income Richard. :thefinger:

Glad you feel good about it. Don't ask what I think. :thefinger:

Post it on a build thread on Pirate and see what kind of response you get.

Anyway, I'm glad you've had a good time building it, glad it has been sort of a community project, and glad you're getting closer to being finished. Looking forward to being on the trail with your aggravating paranoid ass.
