The key is to get someone up there early to reserve a spot or two at the campground along South Fork of the Kern, all the way at the end of Monache Meadow. That is the best place to camp, and it has a john.

Was up last weekend, very dusty and the water was low. Caught one Golden and put the little guy back. No campfires were allowed due to it being so dry. It was in the low 30's at night, high 80's to low 90's during the day.

Maybe we can do this in the Fall..... after a few rains and before it gets too cold? Doing it as a club would be grand (meaning: large turnout). This would be an easier one that, as far as I know, will support stockers without issue. I am 100% down to go in a day or two early to get a great spot.... but have never been and could get lost?

OR.... we were talking about a Labor Day run.... will there not be enough water?

Its really not much of a Jeep trail, but its really pretty. Did it all in 2wd. Id be down to go again, Maybe we could squeeze in Sherman on the way up or something.

That's beautiful.

Is Sherman close? Maybe make it a day run out of camp?

Sherman's trail head is about 25 miles from Blackrock, the end of the trail dumps you out about 10 miles from Blackrock. Im guessing it could be done in 4 or 5 hours round trip from Monache Meadow. Would have to bring extra gas as the nearest gas stations are Pearsonville and Kernville, both about 50 miles from Blackrock.

This sounds great. I am guessing that Labor Day weekend would be bad due to crowds?

There are actually a ton of places to camp in the area if you dont mind rough camping. Monache would suck unless someone got up there early and saved some spots. Not to mention if it doesnt rain before then its gonna be a frickin dust bowl and no camp fires.
